Free sports courts sound great – but in practice, a common problem arises:
👉 the courts exist, but you cannot play.
This was also the case in the Pirita district, where padel and tennis courts were in public use, but their utilization was neither fair nor transparent.
The Problem: Usage Without a System Does Not Work
The main concerns were familiar to many sports facility managers:
- courts were “held” without actual use
- coaches used the courts for their recurring training sessions
- people arrived at the same time and had to wait
- there was no overview of who was playing and when
Although the goal was to provide access to everyone, usage did not function as expected without a system.
👉 The same problem occurs with both free and paid courts – the issue is not the price, but the management of usage.
The Solution: A Simple Sports Court Booking System
In cooperation with the Pirita District Administration, we implemented a solution that creates clarity without complex administration.
The solution includes:
- QR code on the court for instant booking
- web-based booking page
- digital calendar showing all available times
- transparent usage showing who is playing and when
👉 important: the courts remain free to use
Why Does the Booking System Work?
The solution does not rely on prohibition or control, but on transparency.
- users can see available times
- booking creates accountability
- on-site conflicts are reduced
- usage becomes fairer
The result is a simple and effective system that reduces confusion without additional staff.
This makes sports court booking simple and transparent.
Usage for Both Padel and Tennis Courts
The solution will be implemented at both the Pirita Pählik St 15 padel court and the Pirita Kose Leisure Centre tennis courts, where the system helps organize usage in a unified and transparent manner.
The Same Problem in Sports Centres and Rental Solutions
While the Pirita example concerns sports courts, the problem is not specific to them.
The same pattern repeats in:
- sports centres
- tennis and padel clubs
- rental solutions
- car services
👉 the problem is not the industry, but how usage is managed
Autlio’s sports centre software solutions are designed to:
- reduce manual work
- bring clarity to usage
- enable self-service
regardless of whether it involves courts, rooms, or equipment.
Free or Paid – Both Need a System
The Pirita example clearly shows that the problem does not depend on the price.
- free use → “holding” slots
- paid use → confusion and administrative burden
👉 in both cases, the solution is the same: a transparent booking system
Take a closer look at how Autlio sports centre software works.
User Perspective
According to Autlio co-founder Taavi Lindmaa, it is important that free sporting opportunities are preserved:
“The Pirita Kose tennis courts are a place where I have gone to play with my children. I am very glad that such free opportunities remain and that there is now a system that makes usage equally accessible to everyone.”
What Next?
The booking system will launch in Pirita in the near future and can be used to book both padel and tennis courts.
In the future, the solution can be expanded to:
- other courts, rooms, and facilities
- access solutions (e.g., gates, doors)
- payment solutions
Do You Have a Similar Problem?
If you manage a facility where:
- usage is not transparent
- conflicts or “holding” occurs
- there is no clear system
- someone has to manually open doors or gates
- there is no overview of who has access
👉 then this can be solved.
